From The President

Since 1994, the university has followed a visionary strategic plan that included a number of ambitious initiatives. When we adopted that plan our goals seemed in the distant future the establishment of a College of Engineering, the development of an Honors College, an upgrade to Division I-A football, development of a campus in Canyon County and the installation of a campuswide computing system.

Today, I am pleased to report that those objectives each of them representing a major step forward for the university have been either wholly or substantially completed, and that a new plan is now in place to guide Boise State into the future.

This Presidents Report describes the universitys 1999-2001 progress in meeting the goals outlined in the strategic plan. In just the three short years covered in this report the university opened two new privately funded engineering buildings, began its first Ph.D. program, set fall and spring semester enrollment records, was accepted into the Western Athletic Conference, began construction on a new Boise State West satellite campus and was reaccredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.

Yes, the last three years have been rich in collective and individual accomplishments at Boise State. We include selected examples in this report, being mindful that there are literally hundreds of other stories we could cite to illustrate exceptional work being done by our faculty, staff and students.

But we cant pause long to reflect, for Boise State is a work in progress. This year the university faces new challenges as we adjust budgets to accommodate holdbacks and possible reductions. As always, we will put forth even more effort, be even more entrepreneurial and exercise even more creativity as we build Boise State University into a better institution today than it was yesterday. As you read this report, you will see why we have so much faith in our ability to succeed.
