Auction Set for May 7 at
Boise Centre on the Grove

Boise State will conduct Auction 2005, presented by Micron Technology Foundation, on Saturday at the Boise Centre on the Grove. Hundreds of items and services will be available to purchase through silent and live auctions. Proceeds benefit the Athletic Scholarship Endowment and the Alumni Student Scholarship Program.

The special honorees for the 2005 Boise State Auction are the Ron and Linda Yanke family. The Yanke family has been active in the Boise State community and as lifetime members of the Bronco Athletic Association. The Yankes have given generously through financial support and their time over the years. Most recently the Yanke family was the key element in a major transaction with Boise State that was both a sale and a donation by the family. This transaction allowed the university to acquire a prime parcel of property adjacent to the southwest corner of the main campus.

The Yankes have been a major financial contributor to several projects at Boise State including the Simplot/Micron Center, the Centennial Amphitheatre and the expansion of Bronco Stadium. They also helped secure the land on which the Boise State-West campus now stands. Ron Yanke was a local businessman, philanthropist and longtime supporter of Boise State who passed away in 2004.

The auction has been an every-other-year tradition at Boise State since its inception. 2005 marks the 12th Boise State Auction with $2.5 million raised in the previous 11 events. The Bronco Athletic Association and the Alumni Association co-sponsor this evening. Festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m., with a silent auction followed by dinner and a live auction. Tickets to the event are $125 per person.

For more information, to make a donation or reserve a ticket, contact Valerie Tichenor, special events coordinator at ext. 2570 or vtichen@boisestate.edu.

Workshop to Offer

Help for Therapists

Boise State’s School of Social Work will host an intensive one-day workshop focusing on practical approaches to therapy on June 10 in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom. “What Works in Therapy” features Scott D. Miller, co-founder of the Institute for the Study of Therapeutic Change. Registration is $129 before May 15, or $149 at the door. Register at www.twerx.com.

Over the past 40 years, the number of therapy models has grown from 60 to more than 250. Research data, however, shows that these different treatment approaches achieve roughly the same results. This seminar focuses on which similar approaches account for success.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • How to use the common factors in psychotherapy that enhance outcome

  • How to use the client’s theory of change to guide your choices in therapy

  • How to obtain valid and reliable feedback on the client’s session-by-session experience
