This is My Boise State: Alex Scott
Service-learning employee Alex Scott is a junior in the nursing program, with plans to graduate in 2012. She’ll then continue on to graduate school in order to earn her nurse practitioner license. The Meridian native hopes to work in developing countries on issues related to disaster relief and systematic change. “I have a passionate belief that within nursing, I can make a difference,” she said. Here’s a look at her day, and at her Boise State.

This is My Boise State: Jean You
Jean You will graduate May 15 with a BFA in graphic design and a minor in visual arts. The Chengdu, China, native moved to Boise with his parents in 2005 because, “Boise is a small town and it has a lot of mountains.” Currently an intern at the Stewart Gallery in downtown Boise, You hopes to move to a larger metropolitan area later this year to start his career.

This is My Boise State: Craig and Randi Walters
Craig and Randi Walters, are a father-daughter team both pursuing their studies at Boise State. Randi will graduate on May 15 with a bachelor’s degree in geosciences and a minor in applied mathematics. She’s a McNair Scholar, a Boise State Top Ten Scholar, a seasoned student researcher and a student leader. Craig works full-time at Boise State in addition to studying civil engineering.

This is My Boise State: Maghan Yurek
Maghan Yurek plays catcher in a recent women’s softball game. Yurek is a sophomore elementary education student and a member of Boise State’s inaugural softball team, where she has helped the Broncos to a current 22-win season. She has played in 23 games, including four starts. Yurek is a graduate of C.M. Russell High School in Great Falls, Mont., where she was the Gatorade Player of the Year and a three-time All-State selection.

This is My Boise State: Prarthana Kashikar
Prarthana Kashikar is a technician in biology professor Julie Oxford’s biomolecular research laboratory at Boise State University. She started the position more than two years ago after earning a master’s in biological sciences, though she also has undergraduate and graduate degrees in microbiology and chemistry from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Indore, a university in the Madhya Pradesh State of India. In studying birth defects, arthritis and osteoporosis, Kashikar is working with everything from stem cells to zebra fish.

This is My Boise State: Beth Layton
Beth Layton is a sophomore studying to be a graphic designer in the bachelor of fine arts program. A 2002 graduate of Borah High School in Boise, where she was active in three varsity choirs, Layton is carrying on her love for music as a member of Boise State’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble. This is her second year with the ensemble, under the direction of music professor Jim Jirak, and this is her Boise State.
