Higher Ed Watch, a blog from New America’s Higher Education Initiative, named Boise State No. 2 in its Academic BCS rankings, behind Stanford University. Read the story here.
The fourth annual list, which looks at how football schools would stack up if academic success determined a team’s Bowl Championship Series standing, uses federal graduation rates and academic progress rates (APRs) to rank which college football programs are keeping academics as a priority for their players. The formula takes into account academic success both in relation to other football teams and to other students at the school.
This year’s article noted that both Boise State and Stanford also are in the top 10 athletically. Stanford is ranked No. 4 and Boise State is ranked No. 10 in the BCS poll.
