Lisa Harris, vice president for student affairs, accepts a $267,600 check from Boise State Alumni Association board president Jess Byrne (’99, ’04).

The Boise State University Alumni Association has made a $267,600 gift to support the association’s Legacy Scholarship. Board president Jess Byrne presented the funds to Lisa Harris, vice president for student affairs, at the Alumni Association’s quarterly board meeting on Aug. 10 at the Alumni Center.

Each year the Boise State Alumni Association contributes part of the Bronco for Life membership money to the Alumni Legacy Scholarship Fund. This year’s significant gift is a result of member dues and proceeds from the 2011 Boise State Auction.

“With every membership payment, each Bronco for Life member helps fund student scholarships,” said Byrne. “As we shine the light on our future alumni through our Legacy Scholarship program, we thank our loyal alumni and friends for their continued support as dues-paying members.”

A portion of all membership dues are applied to the Alumni Legacy Scholarship Endowment. Since 2003, the Alumni Association has raised more than $1.2 million through membership dues and biennial auction proceeds to support the endowment.

The Alumni Legacy Scholarship is a four-year renewable scholarship available to incoming freshmen who have parents, grandparents or other relatives who are Boise State alumni. The scholarship covers all tuition and fees. Twelve Legacy Scholars and three Legacy Stipend recipients will be enrolled for the 2011-12 academic year.
