Parking Announced for Steve Appleton Memorial Feb. 23
Limited campus parking, as well as free and reduced downtown parking with a free shuttle to campus, will be provided for those planning to attend the Steve Appleton memorial service at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Taco Bell Arena.
Appleton, longtime Micron Technology Inc. chairman and CEO and a Boise State alumnus and supporter, died in a small airplane crash on Feb. 3.
Traffic Advisories and Street Closures
University Drive between Broadway Avenue and Capitol Boulevard will have increased traffic congestion between 8 am. and noon to facilitate buses and reserved parking. Plan accordingly and consider parking downtown or using alternative transportation. Public parking on campus will be limited.
Cesar Chavez Lane will be closed to traffic between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. to facilitate bus staging and parking. Drivers should access University Drive from Beacon or Belmont streets.
Information for Permit Holders
On-campus parking will be extremely limited due to the large number of community members who will be in attendance. Transportation & Parking Services strongly encourages students, faculty and staff to carpool, utilize ValleyRide bus service, bike or walk to help reduce campus traffic and parking demand.
Current students, faculty and staff may ride ValleyRide for free by presenting a valid Boise State identification card with a bus pass sticker. Stickers are available at Transportation & Parking Services, located in the Lincoln Parking Garage or at the Campus ID Office in the Student Union.
Parking Lot Closures: The Stadium lots — including West Stadium, East Stadium, Bronco Lane and Cesar Chavez Lane, as well as a portion of the Manitou Lot — will be closed to all permit holders from 12:01 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 23. Alternative parking for general permit holders will be reserved near the Frisbee golf area and the softball fields in Ann Morrison Park for the day. Shuttle service will be provided to and from campus at Ann Morrison Park between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. A map of available Ann Morrison parking areas and shuttle pick up and drop off areas will be available at transportation.boisestate.edu.
Cesar Chavez Lane will be restricted to bus traffic only from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. No personal or university vehicles will be allowed to use Cesar Chavez Lane.
The Boise State Bronco Shuttle will have limited service from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and will not service the Stadium parking lots or the Transit Center. Visit transportation.boisestate.edu/parkshuttle.shtml for live shuttle location information.
For additional information, contact Transportation & Parking Services at 426-1052, parkingquestions@boisestate.edu or transportation.boisestate.edu.
Campus Parking
Those attending the memorial service are encouraged to arrive on campus prior to 9:15 a.m. to allow for parking.
Accessible Parking parking spaces in the Stadium lots are available on a first come basis. Overflow accessible spaces will be available on the west side of the first level of the Lincoln Avenue Parking Garage off of Lincoln Avenue and Belmont Street, with shuttles picking up outside of the garage and dropping off near Taco Bell Arena Entrance 2. An accessible-equipped Boise State Shuttle will be reserved for accessible parking patrons.
West Stadium parking nearest Taco Bell Arena will be reserved parking only for pre-determined guests with memorial service parking permits. Public parking will not be available in this lot except for limited accessible parking.
East Stadium parking nearest the stadium by Broadway Avenue will have limited public parking on a first come basis. Guests should consider alternative transportation, utilize downtown parking garages or carpool, as campus parking lots will be at capacity. The East Stadium lot will be closed to Boise State permit holders through 1 p.m. to allow for public parking.
Bronco Lane will be reserved for those needing to drop off guests for the memorial. No public parking will be available on Bronco Lane. Taxis will be available after the Memorial Service by the Allen Noble Hall of Fame.
The Lincoln Avenue Parking Garage (1607 University Drive) will provide limited public parking. Boise State Transportation and Parking Services highly recommends that drivers avoid the traffic on University Drive and access the Lincoln Avenue Parking Garage from Beacon Street to Michigan Avenue. The ground floor will be reserved for accessible parking patrons. An accessible-equipped Boise State Shuttle will provide transportation to and from Taco Bell Arena from 8-10 a.m. and again from 11 a.m.-noon.
Parking in other Boise State parking lots will be restricted to the public and will be reserved for students, staff and faculty with a valid Boise State parking permit.
Off-Site Parking and Shuttle Services
Due to the very limited parking on the Boise State campus, several parking sites off campus will be reserved for those attending the memorial service. All off-campus sites will have shuttle service to Taco Bell Arena for guests. Boise State Transportation & Parking Services encourages the public to park in downtown parking structures and ride a shuttle to the memorial service to avoid expected heavy traffic on the Boise State campus.
Free parking will be available to the public in the dirt lot bound by 11th and 13th streets on the east and west, and Front and Myrtle streets on the north and south. A shuttle will be provided to and from Taco Bell Arena starting at 8 a.m. Signs will be posted to direct guests to this parking area. Shuttles will drop off near Entrance 3 of Taco Bell Arena on Bronco Lane. Shuttle pick-up will be at the same location where guests were dropped off to attend the memorial.
Boise Downtown Public Parking
Four downtown public parking garages will honor discounted parking for memorial service patrons between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. These include: Myrtle Street Garage, City Centre Garage, Eastman Garage and Capitol Terrace Garage.
After that period, the first hour will be free and then patrons will be charged $2.50 per hour up to a maximum of $5. Shuttles will pick up patrons beginning at 8 a.m. just north of the City Centre Garage on Front Street, between 9th and 8th streets, adjacent to the Boise Centre. The shuttle drop-off area at Taco Bell Arena will be located outside of Bronco Gymnasium, nearest Entrance 2 on Bronco Lane. The same location will be used to pick up guests after the memorial.
