subExpansion300x300Faculty, staff and students are invited to celebrate the completion of the Student Union expansion and remodel. A grand opening celebration will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, on the new atrium patio on the north side of the SUB and will include a ribbon cutting ceremony as well as the ASBSU time capsule placement.

A grand opening party from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, will feature a free barbecue, band and other fun activities.

The project expanded the state-of-the-art Student Union Building from 185,000 to 252,000 square feet. It included new student organization offices, ASBSU senate and staff offices, expanded student lounges and study areas, a new Bronco Shop and a New Student and Family Programs office suite. The new Boise River Café on the first floor replaced the Table Rock Café. A new campus ID office, Games Center, Pulse Student Radio production studio, Bronco Express and new entrances and patios were completed previously.

The $30 million project also included a new ballroom and remodel of 27,000 square feet of the existing building, including the convenience store, Student Union administrative offices, bookstore offices and the Boise State Women’s Center relocation from the annex to the second floor.

The Student Union is the most frequented building on campus with more than 6,000 visitors per day. That number is expected to climb with the additional 67,000 new square feet of space.
