The event is from 5:30-9 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Powerhouse Events Center, 621 S. 17th St. in Boise. The presentation of awards will be followed by live music by Jeremiah James and dancing until 11 p.m. Tickets are $35 at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/73838. Call 433-5671 to learn more.

The three Boise State honorees were among 11 winners of the 2009 awards. Presented every two years, the Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in Arts and History celebrate people, organizations and businesses that have contributed to Boise’s cultural scene.

Award recipients must have demonstrated distinguished service, creative accomplishment, or a record of publication and presentation of research that enhances the artistic, historic and broader cultural life of Boise. The awards began in 1986 to honor the arts and more than 70 people and organizations have been recognized since its inception. This marks the first year that the field of history has been included in the awards.
