Extended Studies Summer Program

The Summer Program in the Division of Extended Studies has been awarded the 2011 Gary Marketing Award in the category of “Comprehensive Marketing Effort Created and Executed by the Summer Session Office.”

The award, named after Gary Penders of University of California, Berkley, is given annually by the Western Association of Summer Session Administrators (WASSA) for excellence in marketing of summer program campaigns. This is the second time Extended Studies has won the Gary Award; the first one was awarded to Boise State in 2003.

The summer 2011 marketing campaign was produced by summer and intersession programs director Linda Urquidi and design specialist Julie Erb, with contributions by many others, to put them in a winning position this year.

The award marks the fifth honor Extended Studies has received from WASSA. In 2000, Extended Studies took first place in the “Best Use of Theme” category for the summer class catalog; in 2002 it was first runner-up for “Best Catalog Cover;” in 2003 it was awarded its first Gary Award; and in 2006, it received the “Best Catalog Award” in the category of Institutional Standards for its printed summer schedule of classes.
