Four Faculty, Staff Receive Travel Awards

By: Kathleen Tuck   Published 4:04 pm / January 27, 2012

International Learning Opportunities has announced the recipients of the summer 2012 Faculty International Development Awards (FIDA). The awards, which assist faculty and professional staff in participating in a study abroad program for language study, are sponsored by the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC).

Summer 2012 FIDA recipients are:

  • Michael Porter, Music, Lüneburg, Germany
  • Dan Scott, Art, Viterbo, Italy
  • Kathleen Tuck, Communications and Marketing, Viterbo, Italy
  • Don Warner, Chemistry, Bilbao, Spain

FIDA recipients participate in summer language programs as students; no previous language study is required. There is an expectation that recipients will assist with the promotion of study abroad upon their return to campus. FIDA award recipients give brown bag presentations about their experiences during International Education Week every fall. They also attend the annual study abroad fair (held in February) and meet with interested students about their experiences. FIDA recipients regularly invite the education abroad staff to speak in staff meetings and visit classes to promote study abroad to students, faculty and staff.
