Whale! is a product of months of hard work between Alex Wargo and Tyler Brodt who, by a stroke of luck, met local drummer Wade Ronsse (formerly Wasilla). Within two weeks, the new trio (with Wargo on bass) had a set list finished comprising jazzy-blues tunes, dancey Latin compositions, and Doors-esque psychedelic jams. Within the early days of booking shows, Jesse Wiedmeir auditioned for bass, and after impressing the other members in a fast improvised jam, was welcomed into the group. Whale! looks to impress with ability and intensity through driving rhythms and improvisation.
The Bare Bones formed in July 2011 as a solo project for the writings of Chris Brock. After he posted a video on Facebook of himself performing, high school acquaintance Aaron Bossart approached him and proposed a jam session. The two found common ground when they started collaborating and practicing in Bossart’s basement. The Bare Bones had their first official gig at the Flying M Coffee Garage on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. The Bare Bones consists of Chris Brock (vocals/guitar), Aaron Bossart (percussion) and Nathan Norton on bass guitar. The Bare Bones bring together a fusion of genres like indie, blues, soul and alternative rock and are influenced by a variety of groups such as the Flaming Lips, the Black Keys, the Frames, Modest Mouse, Wilco and the Pixies. The band is known for Brock’s soaring vocals and innovative guitar work, Bossart’s virtuoso talent on the drums, and Norton’s energetic and fun style on the bass.
