Mathematics Education

Six Boise State faculty and staff members will make presentations at the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators conference in Irvine, Calif., Feb. 6-8. (http://www.amte.net/)

Joe Champion, assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics, will present “Design and Development of Collaborative Mathematics Education Websites.”

Jackie Ismail, math specialist with Boise State’s Initiative for Developing Mathematical Thinking (IDMT), Michele Carney, associate professor in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Foundational Studies, and Keith Krone, IDMT associate director, will present “Using the Structural Components of Number to Understand Fractions in the Common Core State Standards.”

Gwyneth Hughes, IDMT math specialist, Jonathan Brendefur, professor and director of IDMT, and Carney will present “Changing Beliefs: A Professional Development Task that Reshapes Teachers’ Mathematical Perceptions.”

Hughes will facilitate “Mathematics Specialists and Mathematics Coaches: What is the Distinction?”
