An article co-authored by Jen Schneider and originally published in The Conversation, about the rhetoric surrounding the upheaval in the U.S. coal industry, was published in SFGate. Schneider and her colleagues studied some consistent patterns found in the public communication strategies used by the industry. These include use of the metaphor “the war on coal,” casting the industry as one under siege, and the enlistment of a wide array of voices to speak in ways that advance its interests.
