Vicki Stieha, Susan Shadle and Sharon Paterson recently published an article in the Journal of General Education reporting on the outcomes of supporting widespread adoption of evidence-based instructional practices in STEM general education courses. A product of the CALIPER Grant (NSF No. DUE-1256585), the article describes the impact of structured faculty observation and cross-disciplinary conversation on participants’ pedagogical and assessment choices. The faculty participants’ voices illustrate the findings: incentives, reflection, mentorship and collaboration over multiple semesters support changing pedagogical practices and integrating outcomes assessment.
