Johnson drafted this report as a member of a prestigious panel of 12 U.S. volcanologists who convened four times at National Academy of Science facilities in Washington D.C. and Irvine, California, during 2016. The 170-page report was commissioned by NSF, NASA and USGS to help guide the way forward in volcano science in the 21st century. It is anticipated that this report will help inform funding agencies to effectively prioritize research.
