Faculty, staff and students from Boise State University took home an impressive 35 awards at the annual Idaho Press Club awards banquet held at the Riverside Hotel May 6. The Blue Review, Boise State Public Radio and the Arbiter each took home awards.
The School of Public Service’s popular academic journal, The Blue Review, took home an honorable mention for website general excellence, a second-place prize for serious feature writing, and a first-place prize for weekly print editorial.
The Arbiter, Boise State University’s independent student media outlet, won 15 awards, including the first-place award for general excellence in student journalism; first- and third-place awards for general news story; second- and third-place awards for watchdog/investigative news story; first- and second-place awards for serious feature; second place for light feature; second place for column writing; first place for student editorial; first and second place for sports news reporting; third place for page design; and first-place awards for graphics and student photography.
The Arbiter took first place, winning a general excellence award and Boise State Public Radio also shined with an impressive 17 wins. The station took home first- and second-place awards for general excellence in radio; first place for spot radio news reporting; first- and second- place awards for watchdog/investigative radio reporting; first, second, third place and honorable mention for serious feature radio reporting; first and second place for light feature radio reporting; first place for radio public affairs programming; first place for radio sports news reporting; first and second place for radio use of sound; second place for general website excellence and a second place award for best podcast.
The Idaho Press Club is a statewide association of working journalists from all types of media, as well as journalism students, teachers, public relations professionals and retired journalists whose goal is to promote journalistic excellence and freedom of information in the state of Idaho.
