Books in Every Home PonyUp Campaign Receives Two Generous Gifts

By: Brady W Moore   Published 1:04 pm / November 3, 2017

In the final days of the Books In Every Home PonyUp campaign, Boise State English literature capstone students have received two generous gifts.

Students work on books for class.

Students prepare gently used books with partner Book It Forward! Idaho.

Author and performer Eric Drachman, founder of California-based Kidwick Books, is donating enough copies of his award-winning childrens book and audio CD “Bad Rats” for every child in a Boise first-grade classroom.

And Boise-based nonprofit Book It Forward! is donating a Barnes and Noble gift card, as well as a supply of gently used books to supplement the new books the Boise State students will purchase with funds raised in their PonyUp campaign.

A student reads a children's book.

Student Amanda Timm selects books for the project at Rediscovered Books on 8th Street.

Professor Tara Penry and students in her senior capstone in literature will visit first-graders at Whittier Elementary and Garfield Elementary to distribute hand-selected books on Nov. 17.

With Book It Forward! members of the class also will read books and participate in children’s activities at Barnes and Noble bookstore from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov 4.
