Undergraduate students help retired persons avoid online pitfalls.

Francesca Spezzano collaborated with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) on Nov. 15 to host a successful science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) outreach event. Spezzano involved students from her computer science 596 class, Independent Study on Misbehavior and Misinformation on the Web, who designed and facilitated an interactive presentation to help older adults understand, navigate and prevent malicious acts on the internet, especially social media.

Through this service-learning experience, students practiced transferring technical knowledge to non-STEM audiences, including pre- and post-evaluations.
